Mosaic Accent Wall with Freestanding Tub in the Tennyson Street Area
About This Project
This bathroom in the Tennyson Street area of Northwest Denver used a mosaic tile accent wall behind the freestanding soaking tub as the visual centerpiece. The mosaic was installed in sheets with mesh backing, which requires careful alignment at sheet seams so the pattern reads continuously across the entire wall. The thinset was applied with a notched trowel to the wall only, not to the mesh backing, to avoid pushing mortar up through the joints between tiles. The remaining walls were kept in a plain white large-format tile to let the mosaic wall read clearly without competition.
What We Did
- Prepared wall substrate and established layout lines for mosaic sheet alignment
- Set mosaic sheets with notched-trowel application to wall surface only
- Aligned sheet seams to maintain continuous pattern across full wall width
- Grouted with unsanded grout; cleaned mosaic surface carefully to avoid grout haze
