Large-Format Porcelain Floor in a Westminster Living Room
About This Project
This Westminster home had an open-plan living and dining area where the homeowner wanted a continuous large-format porcelain floor running through both spaces. The tile selected was a 24x48 inch beige marble-look rectified porcelain with very tight joints at 1/16 inch. Before any tile was set, the concrete slab was checked across the full span with a 10-foot straightedge and self-leveling compound was applied to bring the floor within the flatness tolerance required for tiles this size. Lippage control clips were used throughout the install to keep adjacent tiles at the same plane while the medium-bed mortar cured.
What We Did
- Checked slab flatness across entire floor area; applied self-leveling compound where needed
- Planned layout from visual center to minimize cuts at entry and transitions
- Set 24x48 porcelain with medium-bed mortar, back-buttering, and lippage clips
- Grouted with matching unsanded grout at 1/16-inch joints
